Chic Weekend Outfits

Post by Jessica
Over my three years at Fordham I've collected a wardrobe of free t-shirts. I have an entire drawer of crew neck shirts from CSA events, CAB's Spring Weekend and other Fordham related events. Every time I receive one of these shirts and am required to wear them for an event, I try to find a unique way to dress them up. from statement jewelry, a feminine skirt or cute hair accessories, it's always fun to give a t-shirt a new look.

With Spring Weekend approaching, I wanted to find some new ways to transform that fought over Spring Weekend crew neck to a chic outfit.

1. T-shirt cutting
Grab a pair of sharp and high quality scissors, it's time to snip that shirt and transform it. For most of these options, I suggest grabbing a shirt size that is one size up from your normal preference, also grabbing a pencil to sketch out your cuts before you actually start cutting away. These cuts range from easy to a little bit more time consuming. This is definitely not a project to take up 30 mins before you run to the DJ Friday night!

2. Accessorize and stylize! Looking for a more professional and classy look? Try some statement jewelry with a pop of spring color! From bib necklaces to rosette's these bulky necklaces are taking over from stores like J. Crew to Forever 21! You can find a bold bracelet or necklace almost anywhere. Jewelry doesn't only go with the dressed up look. Another trend in this season are body chains. Forever 21 has some affordable styles. These would go perfect for a night time look

Both pieces are from Forever 21

In addition to a burst of color with jewelry, try adding a small satchel or cross body bag to your outfit. This style purse will leave your hands free to enjoy the Saturday concert. Both pieces from Daily Look

3. Pair wisely- Be conscious of what you're pairing your tee with. Sure, dark wash denim and solid color shorts work, but they're safe. try some printed shorts, or a maxi skirt. Adding your cut up tee to these outfits would look great! All options from Forever 21

Style your spring weekend outfit and show us! We'll be sure to take pictures of anyone sporting a stylish outfit all weekend.

All Glamed Up

Post by Jessica

Yesenia is a good friend of ours, and when she asked me to do her make-up for Fordham's 100 Nights: Old Hollywood Glam event I was super excited. I started to research what kind of look was associated with old Hollywood. neutral and shimmery eye make-up and a bold lip was my conclusion. Yesenia has gorgeous groomed eyebrows and I wanted to accentuate theme and bring out her eyes. I filled in her brows and highlighted her outer brow with my Nyx Eyebrow Push-Up Bra. I wanted to make sure that her eye make-up would last the night so I primed her eyes with the Nyx Eye Shadow Base in nude. I used a array of really light and semi darker neutrals to create a simple smokey eye. Of course her make-up also included a cat eye eyeliner. How can you have a vintage look with out the most gorgeous eye look of our time? I contoured and highlighted her face to draw attention to her bold lip and sultry eyes. Finally, Yesenia wore a bold red lip and curled her hair. Her look was timeless and classy. The long black dress and gold accents tied the entire look together. She looked stunning!

The Intern Life

Post by Jessica

Exciting news, I landed the internship of my dreams! I'm the new graphic design intern for the Revlon offices based in New York City. I'm so excited for the opportunity to do what I love, graphic design, for a company I love! Along with this exciting new chapter in my life comes a good opportunity for me to build a slightly different wardrobe and accessory collection. I've always been the type of girl that loves to dress up. I hardly ever wear lounge-wear to school (except for finals week) and I've been pretty consistent on applying make-up and accessorizing. Now, I have an extra excuse to wear all the blazers I bought and skirts I've collected! Who am I kidding, I wear those with out an excuse =D

Today, I wore a heather gray bandage skirt. I never really picked up on this trend until now. The design flatters us curvier girls by giving some extra support. I of course, had to were some black tights because it's nothing short of Antarctic weather in New York and a 2+ hour commute can be very, very, very bad with out coverage from Mother Nature. To add some color to the outfit I wore a chartreuse chiffon blouse. Alex wrote about the beautiful combo of gray and a yellow tone, and I followed her advice. To top things off, I wore a crystal and white choker necklace. This business casual look was great for my first day!

Working for a global make-up company, I felt it was important to put just as much consideration into my face as my outfit. I wore a high coverage matte face featuring my new favorite: The Becca Ultimate Coverage Complexion Creme and my Nars  Radiant Creamy Concealer. I'm really loving this Becca foundation because it lasts literally all day. I have some really long days, I apply my make up at 6AM and get home around 10PM and this foundation is still on and me skin is still soft. It's also not too cakey. I created a very simple, neutral smokey eye using my Lorac Pro Pallet and my Urban Decay Naked Basics Pallet. I added a winged liner and some mascara and lined my waterline with some white shadow. I also applied my Revlon Colorburst balm stain to my lips. For long days like today, i make sure to carry some oil blotting pads to freshen up through out the day.

Overall, I had a long day, but it was so much fun and I can't wait to post more outfits! Do you have an internship? Post a picture of your intern fashion on Facebook or Twitter and tag us, we want to see! And you might be featured in our next post.

50 Shades & Lemonade

Grey, although sometimes not the most exciting shade to wear, has its place in fashion: silver, pewter, charcoal, and even the classic Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh shade.  However, when mixed with a shade of yellow, the combination is so fresh.  It's no surprise that this has shown up everywhere: home decor, crafting, clothing, etc.  Recently, Paulette Thomas, a Junior at Fordham College, sported this lovely neon yellow and grey sweater with a complimentary charcoal infinity scarf.  Her look is casual, yet crisp enough for class.

Yellow is a color of awakening. When I'm tired, the site of yellow instantly makes me feel more awake.  Today I woke up late (so late that I actually missed my train), exhausted from the day before.  I quickly threw on this sweater and I instantly feel more prepared.
Thankfully I don't totally look like someone who got ready in 5 minutes this morning.  This sweater is from the spring 2013 collection at the GAP, purchased for $39.99.  It is the softest sweater I own and it has saved my but on many occasions.

For anyone looking to try color-blocking their wardrobe, I highly recommend a combination of grey and yellow.  Send us messages and pics of your grey and yellow experiments!

Make-Up Haul & GIVEAWAY!

Post by Jessica

Last Saturday Alex and I met up at the Ulta in Port Chester. I walked into a make-up and beauty heaven. Where to start first? Benefit? Stilla? NYX? Not to mention all the drugstore brands of makeup and the brands that are exclusive to beauty stores like Ulta. Needless to say, I browsed every make-up aisle in the store and swatched almost everything on my hand. Alex got first hand experience with my shopaholic alter ego, she even lost me a couple of times in the store!

The day before my Ulta visit I stopped by Sephora to return exchange my Clinique stay matte foundation. I had purchased this foundation before and was really satisfied, I used it almost every time I applied makeup and when I went back to repurchase it the formula was different, it was really liquidy. Maybe I got a defected version, but I decided it was time for a new foundation that was not from the drugstore. One of the makeup artists at Sephora was kind enough to give me a consultation, she told me about the new Becca ultimate coverage complexion creme. I love the Becca primer I've been using for the last couple of months and I know Becca is a good, high-end brand and when I tested our the foundation I fell in love! I have oily skin, so I will only buy a matte finish foundation and this product is perfect! It's a little pricey, but a little squirt of the foundation covers my entire face and it's full coverage! Along with my foundation I decided to try another primer and the lady at Sephora suggested the Smashbox photo finish matte primer.
It doesn't feel as silicony as my Benefit porefessional and it gets the job done, I bought the sample size because the full version is a tad expensive and I want to make sure it's worth the money before I splurge. I also got Benefit's erase paste concealer.  If you look at the picture on the right, it reminds me of silly putty, it's thick, but it works nicely. To complete my face product haul I purchased the Real Techniques miracle complexion sponge. I LOVE THIS SPONGE! First, it retails for only $6.00 which beats the Beauty Blender's $20 price tag. Plus, it's incredibly soft, airy and light. It blends just as well and the beauty blender, and I really like the flat edge for blending foundation. I definitely suggest this sponge if you can't bring yourself to spending $20 on the beauty blender. My only con about this sponge is the color. I love pink, this is not pink. But I have hope they will come out with a pink version.

The rest of my haul consists of some more items from Sephora and Ulta. The NYC lip crayons are surprisingly very pigmented, I need to go back and buy more colors because they're so cheap! I'm also in love with the smell of the Hand Food lotion. Honestly, I've only used my NYX eyebrow push-up bra one and I find the brown brow fill in shade hard to apply because the pencil is not soft, the highlight is nice though, I don't really think it's worth $10. There are a couple of items I forgot to photograph but I'll include them below.
Revlon Just Bitten Kissable balm stain in 030- Smitten Eprise
Revlon Colorburst balm stain in 001- Honey Douce
NYC City Proof Twisistable Crayon in 030- Metropolitan Mauve
NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in 604- Milk, 619- Rust & 602- Dark Brown
Ulta Eye Crayon in Little White Lie, Black Tie & Pink Pearls
NYX Eyeshadow base in nude and white
Rimmel London Kate Moss Collection in 104
Pop Beauty Lovey Little Liners - Smokey Hues
NYX Eyebrow Push-Up Bra
Urban Decay Naked Basics [I seriously love this pallet because I adore matte shades and all but one shade in here is matt and you can create the perfect smokey eye for day or night]
Soap & Glory Hand Food

Revlon Color Burt Lip Butter in Pink Lemonade [I'm so happy Alex convinced me to buy this, I love the formula and the pigment]
NYX Super Skinny Eye Marker [I bought this hoping it's a dupe for my Stilla all day liquid liner, I have not used it yet, but I did swatch it compared to my Stilla liner and I did a quick smudge test and the Nyx liner smudged, I hope It will last on my eyes if I give it time to dry *fingers crossed*]

Wondering about the giveaway? I love the Soap and Glory hand food lotion so much I'm giving away a tube. To win, like us on Facebook and comment on this post or our Facebook update about this post. I will randomly pick a winner by Febuary 15th.

Truly lovely Colors Series. Radiant Orchid

by Jessica

Let's talk about color shall we? This is the first part to my Truely Lovely Colors of 2014 post series.

This year's Pantone color of the year is Radiant Orchid. Each year Pantone chooses a new color to showcase and we see it all around from Sephora's Pantone line to fashion and so on. I must say that Sephora's collection of truly gorgeous orchid color make-up is stunning. I'm eyeing some totaly radient purple products. What are they?

First, It's the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Tender Night - iridescent lilac. In the short time I've been co-running this blog I've been raving about lipstick pencils and I really really really REALLY want this one! NARS claims these are "pigment-rich sticks [that] provide a matte, creamy finish that will not dry the lips." Did I mention that I love matte lip colors? and this is ideal because it has the faintist shimmer so it won't make lips look dry and flaky. Plus, not many people can pull of a purple lip, this color is light enough that it can work. Interested in seeing swatches? Vampy Varnish has some. The price point is a little high-- retailing at Sephora for $25.

Enough about my obsession with lip products, blush is where it's at. I never seemed to be a big blush fan, I always wanted to minimize my face's redness, but I have lately realized how wonderful blushes are and how much I need them in my life. I really want to try Maybeline's new  Dream Bouncy Blush especially since they have a shade called Orchid Hush. The line is afforadble, and from my research it's also pigmented. And who doesn't want an orchid color on their cheek bone? It's the ultimate pale color this season. Amber from Beauty Junkies Unite has some swatches available. I seriously need to pick these up on my next drugstore spree. Plus they only cost $7.99 who can beat that?

So since this is my 2014 dream list, I'm going to go for it, I'm dreaming of buying the Marc Jacobs  plush shadow pallet in The Tease. And then I go to the Sephora website and I wake up...PLUSH! Does'nt that sounds so dreamy? unfortunately this pallet may just stay in my dreams, it's $60 price tag is not in my current reality. It really is a tease. My heart is telling me buy it, but my brain is telling me I can find some nice dupes. But who knows, Maybe the paycheck gods will align with the shoper in me and I will splurge. But for now, I will have to just view the wonderful swatches on Weekend Ramblings.

My orchid dream beauty look would not be complete with out one of my most serious obsessions-- nail polish. I have too many. Out of my collection, one of my favorite brands is Zoya. They make stunning colors that have metallic tone and I love the pigment! Which color I'm I eyeing now? Well it's Hudson from their new Spring 2014 colors. The $9 price tag is very reasonable for the quality you are receiving! Look at that color! It's a perfect match for the Pantone color of the year that I love so much!

The 4-Gotten

By Alex

What happened to the iPhone 4? I feel like one of the few users left. Everyone has switched to some version of the newer, longer 5 series. But honestly that doesn't bother me at all. Those who want the latest thing should do as they please. However, what does make me upset is society rapidly forcing phone users to upgrade as soon as possible. I love my 4S, so when I dropped it in the sink and destroyed it I was devastated. The next day I went to the Verizon store to replace it and struggled for 20 minutes with 'Amanda' behind the counter who didn't agree. "What a waste of an upgrade!" "You should reconsider." "You are making a mistake."
A mistake? Because I love my phone and am perfectly happy with its size and performance? Good to know, Amanda.

As if the battle ended when I left, I struggled to find a suitable case when I left: something simple, sophisticated, and fairly inexpensive is all I ask for. After hopelessly searching through F21, Anthropologie, J. Crew, H&M, various electronic stores, and even two flea markets, I came to realize 4/4S cases fitting my description were extremely rare. It was a miracle I found the one I have now, just the other day, from a store going out of business. It was the last one they had, hidden way at the bottom of a pile of 5 and Galaxy cases.

No doubt a miracle. I don't even know what brand it is, since the box was missing, further proving my point at the lack of consideration.

I'll leave you with this, phone users everywhere: updates ≠ upgrades

Globes and Wardrobes

Alex and Jess give you an inside look at our favorite style moments from the 2014 Golden Globes.

Alex's Red Carpet Scoop

Margot Robbie, Golden GlobesLaughter: Elisabeth was on top form, laughing as she posed to have her picture taken after the event with E!'s manicam

The White Is Right: Margot Robbie stunned in an off-white Gucci gown. Minimal jewelry , a neutral palette, and a clean up-do kept the plunging neckline sexy but extremely elegant. crystal trim complimented her satin green heels.
Glamorous in Geo: Elisabeth Moss never disappoints in a bold print. This metallic J Mendel dress is daring yet classic with a dark color scheme and a sophisticated short sleeve. The matching red lip echoed the sparkling oxblood and pulled this look together, something that Mad Men's Peggy Olson would definitely wear.

Beautys in Black: Newly-engaged Emma Roberts donned a black body-hugging Lanvin gown.  The curvy off shoulder neckline accentuated her figure. The pop of turquoise in her chandelier earrings topped off the look.  Sofia Vergara had the same idea with her Zac Posen gown and aqua necklace.

Red-y or Not: Emma Watson turned heads last night.  Not only was her red Dior dress edgy and sophisticated, she added a pair of navy trousers.  It is understandable that she would want more coverage for this backless frock, but she looked no less elegant than usual.

Jessica's Make-Up Favs and Fails

No critique of the Golden Globes would be complete without a look at the hair and make-up seen on the red carpet. Let's take a look at the best in hair and make up. First, I adored Zooey Deschanel's look. I know some criticized her vintage ensemble  and make-up, but I think it's timeless and stunning! She balanced her nude dress with a bold lip that was just perfect! Not to mention her side swept hair looked beautiful with her bangs and jewelry. Although I would have done without the white flower.

It's no lie that I love the vintage inspired apparel and looks on the red carpet this year. What else did I love? The bare minimum make-up look. This natural look is stunning and showcases any celebrity's natural beauty.  Sarah Hyland is a good example of this look. Again, some criticized her choices but thick and filled in eyebrows and nude lips are simple and elegant. Further, her hair was different, in a good way. I love the braid. Who knew militaristic would look so gorgeous?

Michelle Dockery successfully maintained a vintage yet natural look with her hair and make-up. Her coral color was the perfect shade for her fair skin, bringing the color into her eyes tied the look together.

Yes, there were some looks that were not up to par with these gorgeous divas. First Hayden Panettiere. I'm not a fan of the slicked back hair. It looks greasy and dirty. Next, Megan Mullally. Her bold hair color, overbearing glasses and short bangs just did not come together nicely. And finally Jacqueline Bisset's frizzy hair and  make up made her look older, not wise decisions for her red carpet look.

Fresh Finds

My luckiest find so far! - Alex

Tennis has always been a more fashionable sport: the white polos, pastels, colorful racquets, etc. However, speaking as someone who plays, I tend not to care what my equipment bag looks like. Wilson has recently come out with more high-end bags that look nice on and off the court.  The other day, I purchased this Wilson Marseille bag at Sportech, an athletic store in Rye Brook, NY.  It's a cognac colored imitation snakeskin bag with gold imitation leather straps.  It looks so great I have decided to make it my everyday bag for school, work, and the gym.

The second to largest zip compartment has an open top for a racquet stem, but the rest of the bag is enclosed with plenty of storage. Straps are adjustable. I noticed that there was another Wilson back, similar in style, but in a plum colored imitation leather with a flap over the stem holder.  Both bags include a matching cosmetic pouch in the inner most zip compartment.

Lip Love

Hello lovelies! If you're in New York and the surrounding areas, we hope you are staying warm. We decided that we are going to share with you a little about our favorite lip products from 2013. These products consist of products we reached for most during 2013.

Alex's Lips

My absolute favorite lip product I purchased two weeks ago at Sephora in the Westchester Mall. Clinique Black Honey Almost Lipstick glides on so smoothly. Although it looks black in the tube, it comes out as a sheer berry color (preventing it from looking too intense).  It is sold individually and in a set including matching nail polish, matching lip gloss, and a black mini mascara.  Although the color is subtle, it makes a difference and lasted through multiple water-drinking breaks at the gym. It is not waxy, so the material doesn't break up on lips. Also, it does leave lines around the rim of your mouth as it wears away. I recommend this lipstick for just about everything. It is understated enough to be worn with a casual outfit, but sophisticated enough for a dressier occasion. So far, I have worn this to the ballet, a date, and a few basketball games.

Jessica's Lips

My first product that I want to feature are the Tarte LipSurgence sticks. At the end of 2012, as a Christmas gift to myself I purchased the Tarte LipSurgence Natural Matte Lip Tint in Fiery. As of very recently these chubby sticks have been very popular. I've seen brands such as Clinque, Revlon and Cover Girl come out with their own version of the convenient tinted sticks. I loved my LipSurgence so much that I went back to  purchase Lively- a gorgeous hot pink and Exposed-a classic nude shade. This Christmas I was lucky enough to snag the 8-piece sample set before it sold out! The larger versions of the product that I own have a menthol scent and flavor and have a pretty good lasting power. You might have to reapply a time or two during the day, but the formula does not feel heavy on your lips or anything! I see myself wearing these in 2014 as well and trying the other brands' version of chubby sticks. These products were my go to shades for the year. Bellow are a couple of different events were I was wearing the LipSurgence products.
*I've also tried the Tarte Glamazon Pure Performance 12-Hour Lipstick and loved it as well!

My Next favorite lip product is the bhCosmetics 32 Color Lip Gloss Palette. I like this product because it has so many shades to top off any lip look. I got this product in my first Little Black Bag (This site is amazing! Sign up with THIS link you can get 25% off your order!) I love the variety of shades-- light, dark, neutral-- you name it! The only cons about this product is that it's not convenient to carry around. I cant just throw this in my makeup bag and touch up  the color later on. I've used this product to set a number of my looks.
